Our client is a fast growing, highly successful Private Investment Management Firm with a focus on the acquisitions and recovery of distressed debt across a number of industries, but primarily Commercial Real Estate. They have a variety of LLCs, Joint Ventures, traditional banking relationships, and recently raised a fund to provide capital for their loans and investments.  

They are looking for a Fund Accountant to work in the Accounting department, and he/she will be responsible for execution, financial statements/reporting and general financial oversight and best practices for the investment partnerships. The right candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to work directly with senior management, with the ability to step right in and work independently. You will work with the company’s outside tax professionals and auditors to establish accounting procedures that can be utilized by the entire team.

Primary Responsibilities of the Fund Accountant

  • Financial management policies and internal controls in accordance with GAAP
  • Close the general ledger on a monthly basis, coordinating with management and staff
  • Controlling and managing Accounts Receivable and Payable transactions
  • Oversight, review, and understanding of K1 documents
  • Preparation of and sign off on financial reports (BI/IS/CF) across multiple LLCs, JVs, and Funds
  • Forecasting, annual and capital expenditure budgeting
  • Maintain relationships with external financial audit, tax, investors, and administrators and recommend process improvements
  • Cash management & monitoring of day-to-day working capital
  • Contribute to the entire team and go beyond the necessary

Core Requirements for the Fund Accountant position

  • 3-5+ years of accounting experience with a preference for banking/lending, private equity, and/or commercial real estate
  • Accounting experience with 20+ funds at a time, pass-through LLCs, Joint Venture, Loans/Lending and multi-entity consolidations
  • Be eager to dive into the details and be able to explain them to all stakeholders
  • Able to work on multiple projects at once and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to read through administrator financial statements and general ledgers
  • Experience with Quickbooks, Excel and Walter’s Kluwers products preferred
  • Experience with commercial real estate accounting a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelors in Accounting/Finance or related field
