Controller/Finance Manager

Our client is a locally owned and operated, Austin-based, spirits, fine wine, and craft beer distributor.

Currently, they are seeking to add a skilled and experienced Controller/Finance Manager to join the team. As the first person in this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to establish and oversee all accounting functions within the organization. Your primary responsibilities will include implementing best practices, developing robust processes, managing inventory, and collaborating with an outsourced accounting firm to ensure accurate financial reporting. What you GET to DO:

  • Temporarily collaborate with the outsourced accounting firm to bring all accounting in-house.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop and implement financial controls, systems, and processes to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and transparency of financial operations.
  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
  • Perform regular financial analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, to support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage the inventory accounting process, including inventory valuation, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Review and interpret financial statements and reports, identifying areas for improvement or potential risks.
  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with internal controls and identify areas for process improvement.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the management team based on analysis of financial data.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including vendors, financial institutions, and regulatory authorities.

What you NEED to SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master's degree or CPA qualification is preferred.
  • Proven work experience as a Controller, Finance Manager, or a similar role, preferably in the alcoholic beverage distribution industry.
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks, Fintech, or Dear by Cin7 Core is preferred. 
  • Experience in setting up accounting systems, processes, and controls from scratch is required. 
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management principles and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience working with outsourced accounting firms and managing relationships with external partners.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
