Associate Scientist

Our client is a VC-backed nano-biotechnology start-up revolutionizing the functional ingredient space in food and beverage. They develop, manufacture, and license patented smart nanocarriers that optimize the performance of functional ingredients across multiple verticals including nootropics, energy stimulants, vitamins, probiotics, and protein. Founded in 2019 with 70+ patents, they've experienced 8x sales growth in the past year and partner with small, mid-size, and large CPG companies. Backed by an impressive board from Pepsi, Danone, McKinsey & Company, and others, the company has 30+ employees with leadership from top food B2B companies like ADM, Givaudan, and Kerry.
What YOU get to DO in this role:
- Work with a team of scientists to develop a pipeline of new products, primarily beverages, and further enhance proprietary nanotechnology.
- Lead customer projects from concept through commercialization, working with customers ranging from small start-ups to large blue-chip companies.
- Introduce new products based on customer briefs to address unmet consumer needs and/or resolve technical tensions.
- Develop functional products that provide higher nutrition compared to similar products by leveraging proprietary technology to enhance active ingredients.
- Conduct experiments with high productivity and efficiency to support rapid product development cycles.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring innovative solutions to market that enable higher revenue for the company.
- Apply knowledge of liquid-state nanoparticle synthesis and related characterization techniques to product development.
- Work in a GMP environment to ensure quality and compliance standards are met.
- Contribute to flavor and food ingredient creation with hands-on formulation experience.
What you NEED to SUCCEED in this role:
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Colloid & Surface Science, or related field.
- Knowledge and/or experience in liquid-state nanoparticle synthesis and related characterization techniques.
- 1–2 years of prior work experience preferred.
- Track record of publications and presentations indicative of high recognition of candidate's research in relevant areas by peers.
- Prior experience in flavor and food ingredient development preferred.
- Experience working in a GMP environment.
