Principal R&D Engineer

We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Principal Engineer to join an advanced Research & Development team focused on next-generation Hard Disk Drive (HDD) technologies. The role centers on developing cutting-edge storage solutions with a particular emphasis on areal density-related innovations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive technical expertise, leadership, and a proven track record of contributions to the HDD industry.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the implementation and integration of areal density-related technologies into HDD systems.

Collaborate closely with global R&D teams to integrate new Head/Media/Read/Write (RW) technologies.

Serve as a key technical liaison with manufacturing groups and external suppliers, including Head/Media and Read Channel partners.

Conduct detailed failure analysis, prototyping, and evaluation to improve system performance.

Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement continuous process improvements.

Drive prototyping and testing activities, including:

Building proof-of-concept systems in collaboration with engineering teams.

Evaluating critical performance metrics such as areal density, thermal stability, write/read reliability, and lifespan.

Iterating on designs and processes based on test results.

Foster cross-functional and supplier collaboration to ensure seamless integration and development.
Requirements

Experience: 15+ years of directly applicable experience in HDD technologies.

Technical Expertise:

Strong fundamentals in HDD architecture and related technologies.

Proven background in integrating new Head/Media/RW technologies.

In-depth knowledge of areal density processes within HDD manufacturing.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
