We are seeking an innovative and self-driven Electrical Engineer to join a U.S.-based Research & Venture Team focused on integrating advanced electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, and AI/ML technologies into next-generation semiconductor test and measurement solutions.

In this role, you will lead Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) engineering efforts across a broad range of complex systems involving electrical, optical, and thermal components. This includes systems with semiconductors, photonics, and embedded devices. As an SI/PI Engineering Lead, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering groups, partners, and suppliers to develop and integrate advanced technologies into automated test systems.

You will conduct feasibility studies, build and evaluate prototypes, develop new and modified designs, and manage independent electrical and system-level engineering projects. You will also contribute to product development activities, mentor junior engineers, and provide guidance on field-related technical issues when needed.

This position is based in San Jose, CA, with periodic travel for customer engagement and collaborative work.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and implement SI and PI (PDN, DC, AC) designs for new semiconductor test systems and components, including PCBAs, load boards, and sockets. Target devices include high-performance computing, AI, and graphics processors operating at 64 Gb/s and beyond.

  • Perform SI/PI analysis for complete signal channels, including packages, sockets, interposers, load boards, and cables.

  • Conduct integration testing, qualification activities, and hands-on evaluation of prototype systems and sub-assemblies.

  • Create and manage test specifications, evaluation protocols, and engineering change requests.

  • Interpret test results, generate reports, and present findings to senior technical staff.

  • Present designs during internal and customer design reviews.

  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and technical support teams to define specifications and evaluate component suppliers.

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute ideas for improved methods, tools, and processes.

  • Support the development of patent applications and intellectual property documentation.

  • Act as a technical point of contact for customers; analyze and interpret customer requirements.

  • Identify risks and opportunities for design optimization.

  • Own and manage assigned engineering projects; define technology requirements and develop execution strategies.

  • Drive design completion, provide technical input, and collaborate with external technology partners.

  • Develop test plans, secure required materials, and oversee execution of validation activities.

  • Maintain project schedules, including updates to Gantt charts and coordination with Applications, Design, and Manufacturing teams.

  • Conduct top-level tolerance analyses and serve as a technical consultant when needed.

  • May be assigned independent mechanical design tasks as required.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering (MS preferred).

  • BS + 10 years minimum experience, or MS +3-7 years minimum.

  • Expert-level knowledge in:

    • High-speed signal and power integrity at PCB, package, and system level.

    • Channel simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST).

    • S-parameter modeling and simulation.

    • High-speed SERDES (Tx/Rx equalization).

    • High-speed data communications (eye diagrams, BER testing).

    • High-speed serial protocols (e.g., PCIe) and associated verification.

    • PDN/Power Integrity design and analysis for high-performance compute, AI, and graphics devices.

  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDR, spectrum analyzers, and protocol analyzers.

  • Strong understanding of PCB construction, material properties, and effects on signal quality.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • MS in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experience with photonics and optical signaling.

  • Experience designing, certifying, or deploying semiconductor capital equipment.

  • Background working on cross-functional teams developing complex test systems.

  • Intermediate software skills for experiment automation (meters, power supplies, instrumentation).

  • Ability to read, write, or speak Japanese.
